Many local activities are available, self-organized, or hang-out and visit with classmates.

Sunday Morning, February 23

55th Reunion Classmates Writing Project
Classmates are invited to participate in a Writing Project by contributing a written piece on one of the topics below. All submissions will be published in a 55th Class Reunion Book and made available in PDF and ebook formats, curated by Charlotte Blackmon Collins and Gene Saint Amand. Submissions can be in an MSWord, OpenOffice document or typed in the text of an email. Please email your submission, by February 10, or questions to: writingproject@burroughsridgecrestclassof65.org
1. IN MEMORIAM
Write about a classmate who has died, whom you’d like to remember for their special qualities or the relationship you had with them. Any length, short or long.
2. GENRE FICTION SHORT STORY
Write a fictional short story in a genre, that takes place in the Ridgecrest-China Lake locality or nearby.
-Murder mystery, thriller, horror, romance, sci fi, or other.
-No matter how corny.
-Can be based on real events but disguise the people.
-About 1000 words (4-5 pages typed, double spaced)
3. COMING OF AGE MEMOIR SET IN RIDGECREST OR CHINA LAKE
Write an autobiographical piece that aims to capture the unique experience of growing up in Ridgecrest-China Lake. Include your best and happiest memories, plus one bad memory. Any length.
4. LOOKING BACK
Describe what it was like leaving the relatively isolated, secure, self-contained world of China Lake/Ridgecrest to go off to college in the big city, and how you felt or looked differently at our community upon your return the following summer. Did you join or experiment with the counterculture? Were you a "hippy"? Was your hair longer? 500 - 1000 words (or more).
5. WHERE I COME FROM
Write a poem or prose piece titled ‘Where I Come From.’ Tell us what’s cooking, what the weather is, what music is playing. Include an aroma and a familiar landmark. Use the color yellow somewhere. Any length, short or long.
